Review – Burning Angel Entertainment’s Kung Fu Pussy (2011) and Fuckenstein (2012)

Occasionally, you get to see things that make you shake your head in wonder. And other times, you see things that make you shake your head while simultaneously laughing and wondering “what hell kind of planet is this character from?”

I do that pretty much every time when I watch projects from Joanna Angel‘s hott house, Burning Angel Entertainment – I wonder “what planet is this girl from, and how did she get so gd goofy funny!!?”

Two cases in point: Kung Fu Pussy (2011) and Fuckenstein (2012).

Kung Fu Pussy (2011)

This film is a Burning Angel take on kung fu movie classics. It’s the silliest thing ever.

In Kung Fu Pussy, Joanna Angel, Jessie Lee, and Kleio are three flakey… err… “martial artists” training in some sort of ninja school/monastery, and they don’t get along very well. Each lady individually possesses some unique quality or skill – Joanna has the iron ass, Jessie Lee has the dragon tits, and Kleio has the lotus pussy. Ironically, the only way for them to defeat the sexist, drug-dealing-and-dog-murdering Deen Wang (played hysterically by James Deen) is to pool their wares and perfect the ancient and mysterious Ass Slam.

Shenanigans ensue!!

There’s a training montage that’s just ludicrous – between the practical ninja outfits and Joanna trying to break a board with her butt, you can just imagine. There’s also some walking and walking and walking that somehow jumps to different, but equally practical, outfits and the trio staking out Deen Wang’s lair, which of course is some Oriental-looking sex slave dudgeon/palace. Our heroines eventually best the evil Deen (with the Ass Slam, of course); and, as evidence of their transcendence into full ninja-dom, something magical happens to their voices. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

We never actually get to see the Ass Slam and many of Kung Fu Pussy‘s running jokes are a little dated and trite, but I totally didn’t care. Kung Fu Pussy was fun, Kleio is so perfectly Mary Stuart Masterson in my Some Kind of Wonderful memory, Master Byron (played by Tom Byron, duh) was perfect, and there was plenty Burning Angel-style silly/hott sex throughout. And Joanna, as per usual, was perfectly Joanna Angel – playing the wide-eyed sweetie while, in actuality, she’s the one pulling all the strings.

Her true puppetmaster-ness was better embodied in Fuckenstein.

Fuckenstein (2012)

It’s fun and so mentally invigorating to watch a parody/homage that’s on point enough to re/invoke its intended target, while still being original enough to entertain on its own unique level. Hence, Fuckenstein.

Adorably hott retro-prim Joanna is a little frustrated with her husband, Dr. Frankenstein (James Deen, hysterical). You see, though the good doctor has been working overtime to come up with a discovery big enough to yank him out of the college course teaching pool (ha!! this film is worth the price of admission just for that spot-on critique of academic bs), he has unfortunately been ignoring his lady. Then one night, probably out of extreme neglectful guilt, he sticks his fingers up her ass!! Joanna loves it, and a plan for a monster penis hatches accordingly.

Eventually, as per Frankenstein (1818), Monster has a difficult time dealing with humanity and the egos that come along with it. So he kills the doctor and Igor and ends up with a wifey of his very own. It was awesome.

Fuckenstein was both a well done homage and super original, its tone and mood (and sex) shaped by Burning Angel-typical flair. The script was quirky and peppered with interesting tongue-in-cheek references, and Joanna showed a little bit of acting and schtick range here too, which was refreshing and impressive. The film was in B&W but also comes with a color version …and the make up and set design were awesome …and the lightening effects were super cool!!

Maybe it’s just me, but Joanna and her Burning Angel team have fun sexy camp-tastic awesome cornered. Joanna makes “wtf goofy campy sexy fun” seem so natural that it almost looks easy… which is exactly how I know it’s not.
