PVV – the best of the future, or The Predictive Power of Elegant Angel

Every year (well, every year since 2008), Elegant Angel does something intriguing.

They name *The* Performers… of the upcoming/just-beginning year!!

The Performers of the Year series began under the auspices of highlighting some of the industry’s hottest established and upcoming women performers. Each title in the series features a collection of new scenes; each new scene stars one of the named Performers of the Year in an Elegant Angel-style boy-girl tryst.

It’s an interesting concept – not mind-bending in its “best of”-type originality, but well-executed and consistent. Consider these titles and release dates:

Performers of the Year – released February, 2008 and starring Alexis Texas, Brianna Love, Eva Angelina, Jada Fire, Jenna Haze, Rebeca Linares, and Sasha Grey

Performers of the Year 2009 – released January, 2009 and starring Alexis Texas, Bobbi Starr, Gianna Michaels, Jenna Haze, Kristina Rose, Rebeca Linares, Shyla Stylez, and Sunny Lane

Performers of the Year 2010 – released January, 2010 and starring Alexis Texas, Bobbi Starr, Jenna Haze, Julia Ann, Kagney Linn Karter, Kristina Rose, and Tori Black

Performers of the Year 2011 – released December, 2010 and starring Asa Akira, Gracie Glam, Jayden Jaymes, Kristina Rose, Nyomi Banxxx, Phoenix Marie, and Tori Black

Performers of the Year 2012 – released January, 2012 and starring Asa Akira, Bobbi Starr, Gracie Glam, Jayden Jaymes, Kagney Linn Karter, Kristina Rose, and Lexi Belle

There are many things to notice in just this very basic demographic information. (data!!*)

First of all, you may notice that some women are Performers of Multiple Years – Alexis Texas (2008 – 2010), Jenna Haze (2008 – 2010), and Bobbi Starr (2009, 2010, and 2012) are impressive with three years apiece, but Kristina Rose wins as the only Performer of Four Years (2009 – 2012).

And, if you want to consider the men performers starring in this series too (which I looked up and did), you will see that this series is really actually all about James Deen – he’s the only person featured in every title, The Performer of ALL The(se) Years.

It’s interesting to consider patterns in who Elegant Angel considers to be a performer of the year. The one-time appearances are compelling, as are the performers with strings of successive years… as are those with breaks in between years (ie Bobbi Starr and Kagney Linn Karter). These patterns may be indicators of all sorts of consumer, market, and industry trends. Now certainly, other factors (such as performer availability) may have impacted casting decisions in each of these films – the decisions behind who ultimately gets included in each project (and who is on the box) are fascinating. I wish I knew more about all this.

The other thing I found interesting was the fact that all the Performers Of The Years were announced in anticipation of the new or upcoming calendar. For example, Julia Ann was named a performer of 2010 at the beginning of that year, and Nyomi Banxxx was a performer of 2011 before the year even began!! …why?

I guess belaboring a new title with “Last Year” would date the project from the get go, but I wonder if there’s something more to it… Did Julia Ann, for example, have a great (or at least better) 2010 because she was promoted by this project? Did Nyomi? How has essentially ruling the series impacted Kristina Rose? And for that matter, what has this done for James Deen?!!

Can Elegant Angel predict the future?

There’s no way to ever really know, but I bet I could develop a research plan that would come close to approximating the impact being named a Performer of the Year has on one’s career. #offbeatr

Along a presumably similar line, Elegant Angel released Best New Starlets 2012 in December, 2011. It stars Holly Michaels, Jessie Andrews, Lily Carter, Lily Labeau, and Skin Diamond. Will this be a series? Will it play out like Performers of the Year? Only time will tell…
