PVV – Wicked Pictures’ Horizon (2011) screening, a porn Landmark!!

I’m so lucky!! Last night, I got to go to this:

In a nutshell, it was a porn movie premiere. There was a cocktail party followed by a screening of Wicked Pictures‘ newest soon-to-be-released epic, Horizon (2011), and a Q&A with director Sam Hain and the performers in attendance.

Here’s the fascinating lowdown from your friendly neighborhood dr. chauntelle!!

The cocktail party was really nice. Everyone was really dressed up, it was fun visiting with lots of folks, and I had the most cheerful and inspiring conversation with someone’s 86 year old mother just before the film began. But simmering below all that good cheer, steeped in a couple glasses of red wine, was a question: what would it be like to watch porn on the big screen, with a whole bunch of others??

Now this is, of course, a silly question because the screening wasn’t being held at a Pussycat Theatre, and this isn’t 1994 – the rated-R, sans hardcore version of Horizon was being shown. No sex, minimal kissing, and no frontal nudity.

But I kept wondering about that – what if? What if they had screened the hardcore version?? We’ll never know…

So anyway, Horizon began a little after 10 PM (which, incidentally, was rapidly approaching my bedtime). Here’s the synopsis:

“Wicked Pictures is proud to bring you the most ambitious science fiction adult film ever made. Skillfully written and directed by award winner Sam Hain, Horizon is an instant classic that embraces the genre and takes adult entertainment to the next level. The most cutting edge technology and astonishing special effects have been expertly woven together to bring you a futuristic story of love and survival.

(pictured: there are many looks present in this image)

After an alien species destroys most of the human race, a lone military ship, Horizon, is sent back to Earth to exterminate the invaders. Tensions, tempers, and sexual appetites heat up amongst the crew as they realize that they may not survive the ordeal. Their mission turns into a war of survival as they engage enemy ships, fire fights, a beautiful mind-controller, vicious ‘Crawlers,’ and even each other. Who will be more of a threat: their fellow crew or the creatures lurking outside? A compelling cast of today’s finest stars including Wicked Girls jessica drake, Kaylani Lei, Alektra Blue along with Kimberly Kane and Misty Stone embark on a truly impressive journey.”

Here’s the trailer:

Now I gotta tell you… I kinda understood what was happening in the beginning of the movie, but I was completely lost by the end. Oh well!! The film looked pretty awesome (aside from the motorcycle helmets) and had some nice special effects (really scary alien creatures!!). Here are some highlights:

1. jessica drake plays a damn good spaceship captain, ready to sacrifice herself and her ship, Horizon, and her team for the chance of human survival.

2. Andy San Dimas is an amazing character actor. Misty Stone is just plain amazing.

3. Kaylani Lei plays Captain jessica’s mutinous first mate (I don’t know space terms, so I’m going for ship terms), and this was great!! It was nice to see her playing a badass bad girl who’s very protective of her super smart but slightly-less-than-tough girlfriend, played by Bobbi Starr. And incidentally, it was interesting to see Bobbi play a meeker, scared character – there were some very “different” casting choices in Horizon, which I appreciated.

(pictured: who am I kidding? I’d be scared too!!)

4. The girls in charge are addressed as “Sir” (as in “yes, Sir!!”) throughout the film. At first, this gave me the greatest delight; but after the 18th time, it got old. If you care to read an academic paper, here’s why. But regardless of what the implications of this “sir”-ing may be, this salutation was an interesting twist in the context of Horizon – I think it may have been an attempt at lauding gender equality for the future, which is a good intention that deserves acknowledgement.

5. There were boys in this movie, but I really don’t remember them…

…but that’s all you get – I refuse to spoil the whole thing by revealing any more. Suffice it to say that Horizon sans sex was awesome. Horizon with sex is probably gonna be pretty good too.

I slipped out of the theatre as the credits started to role (pre-Q&A, but I just couldn’t hang), off into the freeway night… because by then it was definitely too late for me!!

Wicked PicturesHorizon (2011) is coming very soon – 9/30/11!! Reserve your copy here.
