PVV – “Girls Watch Porn, Too”!!

Recently, this video has been sent my way multiple times by many thoughtful folks (most notably of course being JHG). It’s about girls, ladies, women, females over the age of 18 – however you want to say it – and how they too like porn!!

Likely much to dismay of several those-who-need-not-be named, this rather funny clip by CollegeHumor.com (posted on 4/25/11) “breaks the silence” surrounding a common myth. I especially like the girl wearing the light blue and grey striped tank top (heee!!) – check out out:

Hi-laaarious, right??!! I know :)

Now, even within the context of this super cute and light and satiric piece, several significant points are made… so, of course, I just gotta comment on them.

1. “Girls Watch Porn, Too”

Now I totally believe you about this, CollegeHumor.com. Whatsmore, I “know” what you’re saying in this respect is true – certainly (some) ladies do like the porn… but where is your proof? Where is the representative statistic or rigorous study that a) shows consumer trends in adult and b) breaks those trends down by gender?

(Incidentally, those are trick questions because the answer is to each is “No where!!” Such statistics and/or studies do not exist, at least not in a substantiated, citable form. Although certainly some adult content production companies must keep track of their own sales data and although one kinda sorta exception-ish is a study by Benjamin Edelman,* no one knows who exactly is buying porn, stealing porn, and/or consuming porn in general)

2. “‘How could women possibly enjoy porn?’… Have you seen porn? How could we not enjoy it?!”

followed by

“Hey, porn industry – where’s the porn for women?”

Although it is difficult to focus on the contradictions present in this segment of the bit because of the absolute adorableness of the actors delivering them… huh?

First, the ladies assert that porn is awesome; but, then they want to know where’s the porn for them… again, huh?

Maybe this is just a little sexist stereotyping coming through – women like what is currently available, but at the same time want something just for them a la women want to have their cake and eat it too (or maybe it was an excuse to get the whole dig on Ron Jeremy thing in there – not nice!!). Regardless…

– The idea of creating “porn for women” is as outlandish as making “shoes for women,” “television for women,” or really anything “for women” in general. All women are not the same, thus the idea that someone could make “porn for women” is a little silly.

– There’s plenty of porn being made by women at this very moment. Some of that porn is intended for consumption by some women (the ones that like whatever depictions are contained therein), some of that porn is intended for consumption by other women, and some of that porn might not be for any women at all – tastes, women’s and otherwise, are endlessly varied.

3. “It can’t be too hard to find a good looking guy willing to have sex with a porn star on camera.”

Eeeesh!!

First off, there’re plenty of hott hott hott men in porn working right now; but if I were to provide any examples, a) that would just be my opinion and b) I don’t want anyone to cry when they find out they’re not on my list (jkjk!!). The point is that assessment of men’s hottness is just as varied as assessment of content, for women or otherwise.

And second – although it might not be too difficult to find a “good looking” guy willing to bang on camera (in theory), finding a guy that can actually do the work required of a porn performer is no easy task…

Think about it: time, timing, hours, bright hot lights, people around (as in, lots of people… some of whom may be eating snacks or tweeting or making noise or… etc etc), hard cock (as in, fully erect), some chic/chics/dude/dudes/combination of chics and dudes that you may or may not know before you have to rub your balls all over them, still shots before the sex and during, changing positions a bunch of times, refraining from finishing, ejaculating pretty much on command, and being in a pleasant enough physical state for someone to be willing to have sex with you… does that sound easy?

If you’ve ever wondered why you see the same dudes over and over again in adult or if you’ve ever wondered why some guys seem to work for years, this is partially the reason. The work required of a man porn performer is not easy, at least not as easy as this little CollegeHumor.com video makes it seem.

(and fyi – Jenna Jameson is not currently shooting new content and hasn’t done so in several years)

But all this is just nit-picky, which is silly of me!! I loved this little bit – it was cute and funny and poked a little at a presumed, perhaps founded, but definitely not substantiated consumer trend/gendered social behavior; and that, my lovelies, makes it ok in my book!!

What do you think?
