PVV – historical perspective in 10 years or less?

I am currently working on a project that requires (read: allows!!) me to do a lot of reminiscing about my experiences with adult over the years – learning about content, negotiating the industry, and whatnot. Consequently, I’m going through a lot of old papers and texts and notes. It’s a super fun process and has facilitated the revisitation of this…

Photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders took photographs of 30 adult performers for his book project XXX: 30 Porn-Star Portraits (2004). In it, each performer is featured in pair of photographs in the same pose, clothed and nude. Copy from several noteworthy authors and public figures accompany the images.

This film, Thinking XXX, documents the XXX photo shoots as the performers and writers discuss topics including economics, sex and sexuality, careers, and private lives.

It’s interesting to see these 2004-era projects with 2012 eyes. The content feels extremely dated at points, but is really interesting and insightful at others. I love the dimension of historical perspective, but the fact that something can feel “historical” in less than 10 years (to me) is mind-blowing… Oh, the world we live in – enjoy!!
